WBJEE Board’s Chairperson’s Statement on Delayed WBJEE 2025 Results

In response to questions regarding the WBJEE delayed results, the WBJEEB Chairperson Sonali Chakraborty Banerjee said that the authority’s hands were tied. As per the provisions mentioned in the 2014 WBJEE gazette notification, the State Government can resolve any issue pertaining to the exam and can direct the exam authority as well.

Moreover, Education Minister Bratya Basu had also stated that the state government was ready to publish the results of WBJEE. However, the authority is proceeding with caution due to the OBC reservation issue.

Why Are the WBJEE Results Delayed?

Aspirants can get a basic understanding of the reasons leading to the delay of WBJEE result 2025.

Last year-

• In May 2024, the OBC reservation that was awarded to 77 categories was cancelled by the Calcutta High Court. The reason stated was a lack of legislative policy to determine a group as OBC in the 2012 scheme.

• Thereafter, the state government filed a petition in the apex court challenging the HC’s order.

Recent events-

• On June 10, 2025, the West Bengal government made minor changes to the previous OBC reservation list and tabled the same in the State Assembly.

• On June 17, following a writ petition, the HC put a stay on the new list, highlighting that the list can be prepared only if it is supported by proper legislation.

• On July 28, 2025, the Supreme Court released a stay order against the HC’s decision to freeze the new OBC list, proposed by the West Bengal Government.
